Mother’s Day Weekend Extravaganza

Here at Fuse HQ we finished March off with a heaping dose of TLC for those both near and far. On Friday we ran our first charity fundraising day for the Donna Louise. We wore our pyjamas, bought cakes and ran a Mother’s Day gift raffle to raise money for the North Staffordshire hospice they run, providing physical and mental care for sick children and their families. On Saturday, we began our Takeover Weekend with Signal 1 Radio, helping them give away massive prizes to hardworking Mums across Staffordshire and Cheshire before finally launching an offer of our own on Mother’s Day itself with 3 months free on any new policies taken out by the mother figure you refer to us for Life Insurance or Income Protection with the quote “MOTHERFIGURE”. See our Mother’s Day email for the full terms and conditions.

Game of Thrones

Finally, we here in the office are eagerly anticipating the return of Game of Thrones to our screens and we’re going to be seeing the final season off in style. Not only will we have a bunch of season recaps lined up on our social media channels so you can get caught up on what happened, but we’ll also be posting full episode reviews every Monday following the episode premiere on our Fuse Assurance Blog! So get your thoughts and theories into us and see who was right, who was wrong and if anyone will survive the coming of Winter…

According to Child Poverty Action Group, the cost of raising a child to the age of 18 in 2019 will cost £75,233 for a couple family and £101,883 for a single parent/guardian family.

Royal London

Royal London’s Independent Governance Committee (IGC), who act as an independent customer advocate, have found the insurer to have delivered on their promise to provide customers with greater value for money on their policies. Peter Dorward, chairman of the IGC said: “Royal London has delivered on the promises it made to us. In particular the work done on workplace customer communications has been a significant step forward.”

LV have recently made expansions to its Doctors Services benefit available with protection, business protection and retirement policies. This benefit will now provide remote access to physiotherapy, psychological experts and support services, as well as providing 25% off check-ups made with private healthcare providers.

Our heartiest congratulations to Maurice Turlock who has been appointed the new Chief Executive of Aviva plc, working his way up from bottom since joining the company in 1992. During the announcement he stated: “We must focus on the fundamentals of insurance and giving our customers the best possible experience – being there when they need us, protecting what’s important to them and helping them save for the future.”

Insurance Premium Tax Review

Chancellor of the Exchequer Philip Hammond has announced plans for a review into insurance premium tax, which many in industry have criticised as a “stealth tax” on “people who are doing the right thing”. Mr Hammond said in his Spring Statement that the review will be used to ensure that the tax operates “fairly and efficiently” in the future.

The Future of Protection

Advisers are split over how to expand the life protection market, despite a predicted boom. Research from MetLife UK suggests while sales could grow by 18%, advisers cannot agree on how they will achieve this while customers are still so divided over the value of these policies. Richard Horner, head of individual protection at MetLife UK has said: “There are… significant concerns advisers are hearing from their clients about the relevance of existing products available and issues about affordability and claim payments, which providers need to address.”
